Fox selected Trank from a list of several directors, having impressed the studio with Chronicle both critically and commercially, as the film was made on a mere $15 million budget and grossed more than $120 million worldwide.
Production on the film will commence after the studio completes work on the X-Men: First Class sequel and The Wolverine, both of which are expected to wrap up next year. It was last reported Michael Green was writing the script, but that may no longer be the case.
None of the original cast members from the first two Fantastic Four films will return either, as the studio plans to restart the franchise and introduce a brand new cast.
