The MMVA’ s left some fans with mixed feelings about those that won when it came to a tie between Drake and Justin Beiber. Lady Gaga took away two awards including Best International Artist, but if you focus on the performances of the MMVA’s most were generally disappointing. Even Lady Gaga, didn’t seem like she was giving it her all this year. Co-host Selena Gomez performed her latest single, with a mediocre voice and showed off minimal vocal range, but she was still better than Avril Lavigne who sings all her notes very forced.
Selena Gomez kept stating that the encore performance from Lady Gaga would have a surprise for the audience, yet there wasn’t one. If there was anything somewhat “shocking” it would have to be that Gaga putting fake blue/green hair on her crotch and arm pits to match her wig, but seeing Gaga with fake pubic hair is hardly considered a surprise. It was nothing shocking and nothing that trumps the other things she has done on stage.
The best pop performances of the night were by Far East Movement/ Dev and Bruno Mars, as they were the most original in the sense of mashing up their songs, and interacting with the audience. Beyond that the only performances that made a respectable performance were the live rock bands like Down With Webster and The Black Keys. In summary, the show was a success. No major mistakes on stage (except Avril’s F bomb while singing), and the show was a solid 2 hours of entertaining performances. The quality of those performances was mediocre.
So let’s do a vote, who was the worst performer and who was the best and why?
