Now this can be a scary subject to approach. As a matter of fact, the majority of the time the very thought of men’s sandals makes me squish my nose and close my eyes. With that being said, where there’s a will there’s a way and I’ve seen this done before where I was pleasantly pleased. I’m pretty specific about which ‘mandals’ are acceptable… personally if it has an ankle or heel strap and you’re over the age of 10 please step away. I’m partial to ‘mandals’ that are thong-toe and strictly made of leather (if they’re not for the beach of course). Just enough foot/toe cleavage and a very masculine texture and we’re cooking with gas! As always I’m not opposed to color but I don’t think that this is an area that we should get too carried away. Some nice browns, blacks, and deep greens and I can live, a hint of color is fine but I prefer a dark base… but who am I to judge or say right?! There are a few important rules that need to be followed though if you’re going to wear these risqué bad boys:
Mandal Rule 1 – Toes MUST be properly maintained! You’re exposing these to the world; the least you can do is make sure they are in tiptop shape. Pedicures are divine, but if you’re not comfy sitting in one of those lovely massage chairs while someone pampers your feet and brings them into a state of euphoria you can opt to do it yourself at home.
Mandal Rule 2 – Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Once again your toes and feet are going to be on display, therefore it’s only right that you make sure they’re ready for their close up. If they’ve been tucked away all winter or you didn’t pay much attention to them try using lotion on them right after a shower and slip on a pair of socks. You’re feet will be softer than a baby’s booty in no time!
Mandal Rule 3 – Wear appropriately! Remember these are summer accessories, not year-round or when you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to tie your shoes slip-ons. Respect the ‘mandal’ and wear them well. A nice pair of casual shorts (3/4 length if you know how), a plain or simple graphic t-shirt, a pair of your finest ‘mandals’ with sunglasses and you’re set!
Take your time, shop around, chose a ‘mandal’ and try’em out!
